World Disability Day: Vice President Venkaiah Naidu Urges Corporate Sector To play An Important Role
On Tuesday, 3rd Dec Venkaiah Naidu, the Vice President of India said ‘World Disability Day’ should be renamed ‘Day of Persons With Special Ability.’
Speaking on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities Mr. Naidu appealed to people in India and the world over to consider his suggestion as such people have proved that nothing could stop them from achieving their goals.
Differently-abled people with outstanding achievements were conferred with National awards at the Raj Bhavan in Delhi to mark the occasion. He also asked those in authority to work towards the empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
Meanwhile, he urged both corporate and private companies to play an important building role in for hassle-free access to cinema halls, auditoriums, and public places.
November 3 marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, also known as the World Disability Day. A number of institutions especially the United Nations posted tweets regarding this day and also gave out special messages. The World Health Organisation tweeted :
"Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Over 1 billion people in the world experience some form of disability. Let's celebrate diversity & promote the human rights of people with disabilities."
