Review: Black Widow Trailer Shows Glimpses From Natasha’s Past, A 'Family' Reunion, and Taskmaster!
Scarlett Johansson is the fifth 'Avengers' actor to get a solo film in the MCU
Eventually, the Black Widow trailer was just revealed by the Marvel Studios on Tuesday, December 3, 2019. Despite the end to the 23-movie-long Infinity Saga, there was one last Avenger, still, left to receive a solo film in the MCU. And that was none other than Natasha Romanoff aka the assassin-turned-superhero! With the first teaser trailer, officially out now, fans have got an oppotunity to have a look at the glimpses from her dark past, in a time frame between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.
Importantly, the Black Widow trailer is mostly what you were hoping for—anticipating!
The trailer starts with flashbacks from the S.H.I.E.L.D agent’s untold life, including sequences from Age of Ultron, The Avengers, Captain America: Winter Soldier, and Civil War. Then you get the look at a blonde, red haired Romanoff, staring in the mirror. The iconic intro of Marvel Studios is followed by her trip back to the place to where she belongs.
Thaddeus Ross, a de-aged one though, is also in the flick and his involvement with the lead character will be crucial to see.
The clip then reveals the ‘sister’ of Natasha, as the latter calls her, Yelena Belova— the second Black Widow as far as the comics are concerned. Her character is played Florence Pugh.
Natasha then seems to go on a mission to complete an “unfinished business” to “go back to where it all started”.
Then there’s “a hell of a reunion”, as the former Russian spy says, while being together with her old ‘family’ of friends. Upon a meeting after a long time, David Harbour (playing Alexie Shostakov aka Red Guardian; a Russian super-soldier and counterpart to Captain America) says the most apt line “Family, back together again”.
But the big moment comes in when the very first look of Taskmaster himself is unleashed, as he’s shown chasing someone (surely Black Widow), in a high-octane action scene. Actor playing the supervillain is yet-to-be-known. The famous comic-book rivalry between him and Natasha will be amazing to watch on the big-screen.
Overall, the first footage from the 24th movie in Marvel Cinematic Universe is having lots of flashbacks and a reunion, while showing what’s about to come for the protagonist as a life changing moment.
An official teaser poster was also revealed just minutes before the premiere of the trailer video. Have a look, below:
Within hours of getting released, #BlackWidow started trending on social media, including Twitter. And fans are not able to get enough of Scarlett Johansson’s look in the clip, while also getting ready for her solo MCU film—even if it’s coming as a starter to Phase 4.
Black Widow, directed by Cate Shortland and produced by Kevin Feige, will be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The film will be releasing on May 1, 2020 in the United States. However, it will arrive early in India on April 30; it was recently announced by Disney India.
