Avengers: Endgame may be breaking box-office records and everyone may be praising the entire cast of the movie, but there’s a section of those who are not totally comfortable with one particular actor in the MCU—Brie Larson. Yes, a new controversy has now again come out regarding the Captain Marvel actress.
Although her debut origin movie made billions of dollars and the film itself received a majority of critical appreciation too, yet there are individuals who didn’t accept her as the new leading superhero, especially in the future of MCU.
Things became problematic for the actress when one of her interviews given during the press tours of Captain Marvel, was received in a different manner by those wanted to target her. The interview itself was taken out of context as she didn’t really say anything in a negative sense. Still, she received backlash from a certain community of fans.
But despite all the hatred and criticism by people, her debut solo superhero flick was a blockbuster and made a record global opening in its first weekend. The movie is still doing great in theaters, even after two months of release.
However, after the release of Avengers: Endgame, there have been people who still don’t want her to stay as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel in the future. Why?
Recently, she said in an interaction with Variety and on iHeartMedia’s big podcast that diversity needs to happen faster, on the part of the women.
In the interaction, she said that she’s happy to be at the forefront of the normalization of this type of content and to prove once again that representation matters. That diverse storytelling matters, the female experience matters, and these all are markers.
“So it’s something I’ve always known and I think a lot of people always knew, but this is just normalizing,” she said.
She concluded by saying that she doesn’t understand how one could think that a certain type of person isn’t allowed to be a superhero. So to her, it’s like, they need to move faster. But she’s always wanting to move faster with this stuff.
After this, a petition surfaced on the internet, demanding Brie Larson be replaced by a gay woman of color, since she talked about diversity.
The petition titled Demand Captain Marvel is Played By a Woman of Color, Not Brie Larson! has surprisingly got more than 10,000 subscribers so far.
The online petition reads:
Well, there’s definitely no chance that Marvel Studios’ head Kevin Feige will now look up to this ‘petition’ and decide to replace Brie Larson. No ways.
But things are pretty complex nowadays, as can be seen from this kind of reaction from the people who don’t understand what one tries to say or convey. Maybe they just don't want to.Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
