McMafia wins Emmy: Sacred Games star and exceptional actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui had a memorable time, on Monday night, to be associated with two different and outstanding television crime dramas. His show ‘McMafia’ won the top honor of ‘Best Drama series’ at the International Emmy Awards 2019, on November 25, 2019. The TV series is directed by James Watkins and produced by Dixie Linder.

Siddiqui, 45, walked the red carpet as a part of his immensely popular Netflix series, Sacred Games—in which he plays Ganesh Gaitonde, a mafia don—but eventually went upstage, with his team of McMafia, to collect the trophy for best drama. In the BBC series, he portrays the role of Dilly Mahmood, the Indian partner of London-based son of a crime lord from Russia. James Norton plays the protagonist, in the storyline, who is the son of a Russian criminal and is forced into the dangerous business of his family.

Sharing his happiness after winning the award, Nawazuddin tagged his other members from the cast of the Emmy winning show, in his tweet. He wrote:

It's a pure delight to be receiving the beautiful winner trophy at the International Emmy Awards Gala in New York with one of my favourite directors James Watkins for our work McMafia. Congratulations, James Norton, David Strathairn, Merab Ninidze, Oshri Cohen and Team McMafia.

In an interaction with reporters, he also told about how he was selected for the BBC crime drama. He revealed that director James Watkins was following him since 'Gangs of Wasseypur'. And after he did 'Miss Lovely' and 'The Lunchbox', it helped him bag an important role in the British crime drama television series.
Apart from the victory for McMafia, Nawazuddi Siddiqui was also spotted posing for the cameras with his other team, that is, Sacred Games cast members, including Radhika Apte and Kubbra Sait, who were present at the award function in New York on Monday night. Show's directors Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane were also there to register their presence.
