MC Mary Kom Wins Yet Another Gold, En Route To Clinch World Champion Title for The 7th Time In A Row

MC Mary Kom thrashed Australian April Franks in finals and won the President’s Cup in Indonesia. She won the final by 5-0 which was held at Labuan Bajo on Sunday, 28 July.
6-times world champion, fighting at her 51kg weight category, ticked all boxes of a dominant performance.

Mary Kom to clinch world champion for the 7th time

“Gold medal for me and for my country at #PresidentCup Indonesia. Winning means you’re willing to go longer, work harder & give more effort than anyone else. I sincerely thanks to all my Coaches and support staffs of @BFI_official @KirenRijiju @Media_SAI,”. Kiren
Rijiju took no time in replying to her tweet and congratulated her in a heartfelt tweet, “Dear, @MangteC you are always a huge pride for India! Hearty  congratulations to you on winning the Gold Medal for India at #PresidentCup
Indonesia!,” she tweeted shortly after the victory.

Overall the Indian boxers finished President’s Cup on a high note with 9 medals,  including seven gold.  Mary Kom will again be the top contender to win the World Championships to be held in Russia in September. She is the only woman boxer to bag a medal in all of
the 7 editions of the World Championships. So Indians will be expecting her to defend the title which she won last year in New Delhi. She also skipped the Asian Championship recently so that she could focus on her Tokyo Olympics goal. She is yet to achieve Olympic’s berth but World Championships can be a vital event and it can help her in achieving the berth.

While many would expect the aging 36-year-old boxer to slow down a bit, she has other plans. And at World Champion, she can create history once again by winning the title for the record 7 the time in row
