Most of the victims of the blast include women and children, as per the spokesperson Nasrat Rahimi. Those injured were taken to a hospital in Kabul, which is run by an Italian NGO Emergency.
A witness, who lives near the venue where the wedding was going on, told CNN reporters that they were planning to sleep at the time, in the night, when the sound of a loud explosion was heard.
It was not long after the attack that ISIS eventually took the responsibility for carrying out the bomb blast. The terrorist organization said that a Pakistani fighter detonated an explosive vest, among a large number of Shia Muslims who had gathered in the wedding. It also added that a car blast followed the initial attack.
This report was provided by the SITE Intelligence Group which constantly monitors the activities related to terrorism.
This attack has been condemned, on Twitter, by the Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani. He wrote that his top priority, as of now, is to reach out to the families of the victims of this barbaric attack.
He also added that as a response to this severe attack, he had called for an extraordinary security meeting for reviewing and preventing such security lapses, in future.
The venue of the wedding where the blast took place, on Saturday, is located near the Darul Aman Place, where the President is expected to celebrate the Independence Day of the country, on Monday, August 19, 2019.
